Edinburgh City Council spent millions pushing a policy of stock transfer. They
used every trick in the book, from phone calls and door knocking to billboards and radio adverts, but still tenants voted No. What is the response from the Council to this democratic decision….ignore it and try again!Today’s Evening News (Monday 23rd Jan) states that the Councillor Sheila Gilmore is “actively considering” partial stock transfer. Why will she not actively consider listening to tenants vote?
For the last year the council has said that whole stock transfer is the “only game in town”. Yet suddenly they say that there are other options. How many more lies will the council tell us?
If you think the council should respect tenants vote, then you need to act. Write a letter to the Evening News explaining why you voted No. Contact your local councillor, ask them if they will speak out publicly against these plans and will they sign the Fair Deal for Scottish Council Housing statement (attached and pasted below) committing them to fight for a future for council housing? We have been told time and time again by councillors that being approached by a constituent makes a real difference.
Let’s make the vote stick, please act now.
Fair Deal For Scottish Council Housing
The vote by Edinburgh tenants against stock transfer is a clear rejection of the
blackmail that says investment must be linked to a change of landlord. The Executive and Westminster should respect the tenants’ choice and should release the funds for council housing that would otherwise have been made available through stock transfer. We demand the following:
•Debt write-off not linked to a change of landlord
• Create a financial level playing field for council housing
• Bring council homes in Edinburgh and throughout Scotland up to a decent standard
I/we wish to add our support to this statement………………………………

Edinburgh Council are not happy because tenants voted the 'wrong way', so they are considering having another go at it!!
